sewing sleeping bag baffles
Question:
Hi Mark, I wish I had some concrete info for your but I don’t. I do have some observations based on my experience which you may find useful. When you do work like your project, you are essentially working in 3-d with geometric forms. Have you tried doing a scale model cross section, either on paper or with materials similar to the finished item? This is how I solve a lot of design challenges. I suspect that your baffles will not have darts in them, but will be shaped to accommodate the finished loft. (perhaps a curved/trapezoid type shape) I would be happy to brainstorm with you via email, maybe share some bitmap-type problem solving… Regards, Penny Specialty Outdoors http://www.nextdim.com/users/pschwyn Visit "Tips for Making Your Own Gear" – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Well actually patterning them. I’m making a down bag with a differential cut. I already have all the materials and I’ve worked most of it out copying my 3 season marmot but I can’t see the baffles. Does anyone know how the baffles are patterned to compensate for the different lengths top and bottom (or inside/outside). Is it a curve? eased at the bottom? darts? a combination? Planning on 9" of loft so the length difference will be a bit. I searched Deja news for here (at least one person made one) and rec crafts.textiles.sewing. Couldn’t find any patterns just kits.
