my embroidery

Question:

[posted/emailed] Please, folks, *never* post graphics to text-only newsgroups.  The reasons for this are in the FAQ that Kathy posts every week to this group, "Welcome to rec.crafts.textiles.needlework."  Here is the relevant information: – Binary files (pictures, software, sounds, etc.) should *not* be posted to     discussion-only newsgroups, and discussions shouldn’t be posted to     binary-only newsgroups.  There are several reasons why one shouldn’t     post binaries in discussion-only newsgroups.       ~ Binaries are usually much larger than text files and so take much         longer to download.  An unexpected binary file can be a very unpleasant         surprise to someone who pays for phone connection time or internet         access time by the minute.       ~ Binary files take much more space on each Internet Service Provider’s         disks, so some ISPs won’t carry binary-only groups.  If a         discussion-only newsgroup starts to get too many binary files, it may         be considered to be a "hidden binary" group and some ISPs may stop         carrying it.  So *other* people who had nothing to do with posting the         binaries could lose their access to the newsgroup!       ~ Binary files can "break" or "hang" some newsreaders. An unexpected         binary file can force a person to have to restart their newsreader or         even their computer. There is also a great deal of other information in that FAQ that everyone who posts to this newsgroup should know. The smaller twice-a-week posting, "Newcomers to RCTN – Please Read!" is also must-know material. If you can’t find these postings in the newsgroup, they are available on Kathy’s Website at all times unless the whole Website is down. < http://www.dnai.com/~kdyer  Click on Needlework FAQs and scroll down to the bottom of the page. Response:

You should be reading the FAQ’s of any newsgroup before posting a binary attatchment to it, this is a big NO-NO for text only newsgroups.  Like RCTN.  Newsgroups can be dropped by servers for having attatchments when they are not binary newsgroups. A link to your picture would be fine and welcome here. That’s OK, I just wanted to be sure you got the message not to post binary attachments to the newsgroup.  Sometimes people come in and post and then disappear, only to come back again later and do it again.
