Delurking again and misc.
Question:
Though I have posted before, I mostly lurk and read all messages. Am testing out AOL preview of version 2.5 which allows downloading all messages in a ng and looking at them off line when I don’t have to pay connect charges. Only problem is answering messages off line does not work yet, so I don’t post when I should. A few answers for different threads. In using mettalics, the normal
ratio is two floss to one mettalic. Muppets are available from Just Cross Stitch. There are six booklets that I know of. Mostly Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog. I have started using linen and stitching in hand. I find it much nicer to work that way and will probably never go back to Aida (except for the opera). The only problems I have with linen is that I sometimes miscount. I normally using the Lewis Carroll meathod of starting a piece. Start at the begginning and work to the end. I like to get something done that allows me to see the piece. Then work outwards from there. I start by putting guide lines along the edges of the linen by basting every second hole and putting cross markers every 10. This allows me to find any place on the design fairly easily. Currently working TW Spring Carousel, Wizard of OZ piece and grandson’s name in teddy bear alphabet. On tape are two humingbirds, a peony, and anything else that catches my fancy. I justify my expenditures for supplies by saying its cheaper than having a nervous breakdown. Besides, any expenses that are incurred to make things for grandchildren or children don’t count. Someday I’ll work out a great signature, but for now Happy Stitching George Blum (another male sticher)
Response:
George, I also have a friend that downloads the newsgroups to view so he does’t have to pay as much. I am lucky and have about 150 hours a month so this is not a problem for me. I got rid of AOL. My curret server seems to do me a much better job.(The lines aren’t always busy) Look around and see if you can fnd another local company that might suit your needs better. It really is fun to answer mail as you "surf" across it. Laura

I recommend pipeline….flat rate of 19.95 a month, and right now it is not costing anything while still in beta…for only a couple of weeks more…rate guaranteed through December 31, 1996. I got on IRC first time…albeit with lots of encouragement and assistance from Amy from Washington. And when I post…they show up posted as I keep reading all the messages. Phoebe Figure out how to be a mensch. Then use the knowledge. JHSL
