Question:

You sound dreadful. See you Doc. My dose was reduced to a 3.3 and I been SVr since shot #5. My thyroid went to pot, and I could not tolerate the regular dose as it was a sledge hammer in my head type pain and frozen pain, it was beyond a migraine headache.. A dose reduction may be in order. Tell the Dr. about vision stuff thing you have going on. You may need some anti stress drugs. Are you on anti Ds Hope you feel better soon.  Juanita

Hi kj, Hang in there. I have had similar experiences. Early on in tx I started antid’s. They took a while to work. I thought they weren’t going to. But the depression is much better now. I’m trying to deal with the brainfog and forgetfullnes alongside with my thought processes going a million miles an hour.I’m using quilting and painting much the same as you are using music. I have apprx 6 projects going at once. There is always something able to hold my focus for a bit. I also practice allowing myself to just "be" where I am. It doesn’t work everytime but I do beat myself up less. Peace, Mary Ann

Sorry MaryAnn, I didn’t get your email. Hope you saved a copy? Most likely you got burned by the crude but apparently effective anti-spam feature in what appears as my email address. You have to delete the NOSPAM and use what’s left to get to me. I get virtually no spam email on that account so it’s still usable. But wasn’t the last week freakin’ unbelievable? I really don’t "do" high heat plus drenching humidity well at all – tx or no tx. The humidity was so awful there was a constant sheet of standing water on my garage floor – up until tonite. Then we had a 35F drop in just three hours this afternoon, accompanied by a similar drop in humidity. Phew. Thank goodness! "Change" better be good ‘cuz there’s a lot of it around ;-) Cheers /greyhackles

From a mental point of view, it sounds normal.  Don’t worry about it as long as you’re not suicidal..   Seriously, tell your doc about that tomorrow.  What could be a very serious side is your visual problems. You absolutely MUST mention your tunnel vision to the doc.  That could indicate serious damage occurring inside your eye.   Elmo   http://community.webtv.net/elmoemerson/DocElmosHepFile http://community.webtv.net/elmoemerson/TheFamilyAlbum

Been there, still there, still battling the same symptoms, and I’m physically wearing myself out constantly finding small tasks within my limited capabilities to get a mental grip on. Tx-head brain fog is real, tremors are real, vision stuff – that can be bad. But here’s the irony: you probably won’t remember more than a *quarter* of what you wrote, and yet it is information that your doctor(s) may consider important to know. At the very least they might want to change your anti-Ds – type and/or dosage. So do yourself a HUGE favor: print out the body of your post and take it with you when you go see your doc. It’s the only way my docs have a clue what’s up with me aside from the blood work – which doesn’t show Jack about what’s going on in your head, nerves or eyes… Hopefully easier days are ahead for you. Hang in there and kick viroid butt! Cheers /greyhackles

I’m glad you like it. A bunch of  talented kids. They played at the Talketna Bluegrass Fest (hour drive for me) last summer, my friend saw them and said they were amazing. The gal was clog dancing AND wailing on the fiddle!!!! I was sorry I missed it. I might have to go play hooky from work this year and check that out. I don’t watch much TV anymore. But tonight I watched a movie I rented, "The Punisher". It was a fun filled dick flick with lots of blood and gore.!!! hahaha…. Well take it easy, the TV was my friend on treatment. I watched a lot of movies, saw every episode of "Enterprise". Maybe that is why I’m not to into it this year. Good for you! Not eating before weighing isn’t cheating, but you’re really only fooling yourself…LOL Especially if you ate before weighing the previous week. I’ve seen some really odd rituals at weigh-in. Some folks strip down to the bare essentials. I’ve always maintained that the scale is not really an accurate measurement of success, but unfortunately it’s the only one WW uses. You’ll know you’ve lost real body mass when your clothes start feeling looser. In the meantime – congrats on the good loss and keep up the good work! Great job this week. I don’t eat before my WI. That’s the beauty of a 7:30am meeting. WI in at 7am and home by 9:30am for breakfast. I do get a large coffee for during the meeting and if I remember I bring some fruit or yogurt to the meeting for breakfast. during the summer I go to a 5pm WI. I tend to stress out all afternoon that I will drink too much water and the scale will be up. Very nerve racking indeed.

I don’t consider it a cheat. Been consistant from week to week means that any loss/gain is real and not the result of the last meal that you ate (or didnot eat).

You’d be surprised at what people do at these meetings. I did not witness it myself but one girl stripped down to tee shirt and panties this morning. And this was in a mixed (male/female) public storefront. I think that is a little too much. I have also seen one woman strip down to her nightgown. Many thought that was funny. Many, myself included, just wear roughly the same weight clothing each week to keep consistant.

I have to admit, I was wearing a heavy sweater once and weighed in and was truly disappointed in the numbers, the leader that was weighing, who I have known for about 17+ years now, told me to just take the sweater off since it was so heavy.  I thought about it and did, stripped to my bra on the top half only.  Then proceeded to get dressed, if any one saw me it was only my back and this was in a mixed meeting in a public storefront. Our local Chinese place had what they call diet dishes, no salt, msg, fat, etc.  I usually get the chicken/broccoli or shrimp broccoli and they send a quart of rice(steamed white)with it.  They also have a special sauce that is low in salt and no oils, think it is a light soy with ginger and scallions in it.  Tastes good and the opne meal they send lasted me 4 meals and my DH another.  We also make our own sauces with Splenda instead of sugar and use the soy lite and rice vinegar light.  Cuts the points in half almost.Still use about 2-3 tbs of peanut oil though to fry the chicken in.  Then we blot most of the oil off before we go any further.  since we only make this once every other month(much to kids dismay) we consider it our splurge night. Adele – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – While I don’t do much chinese anymore, I don’t think that it is all that WW-friendly.  I think that there may be more hidden oil in the foods than we think unless you do a lot of streamed veggie dishes. We have two local chinese places that have "diet" plates. All steamed chicken, shrimp or scallops plus veggies. I add some soy or garlic depending on my mood. I usually skip the rice as there is plenty of bulk if the veggies have brocolli included. One has all 3 meats in it and will make several meals for me. Other times I just get an egg roll and some egg drop soup.

Replying to my own message!  On the basis of the fact that my scales seem to be pretty accurate – my total weight loss is about 30#.  I lost some weight last year and managed to keep it off and then just hit a wall and couldn’t seem to get myself back on track.  That was the reason I decided to join WW to see if I could get through, or around, or over that wall. I just tried on a flannel jacket I made two years ago before our trip to Alaska and it is really, really loose on me! This weekend should be a real challenge points wise.  We’re going to Yellow Pine (population 45) in the Idaho mountains to the annual Harmonica Festival.  It’s going to be really hard to stick to my points, but I’m gonna try! Our leader told us this evening that the program change will be the week of Aug 24.  Of course, everyone asked for a hint.  She said it will still be points, but easier!  I don’t see how points could be much easier than they are already, but she swears it will be.  Right now she’s doing it both ways, since she has to know how to do it to teach us. — Donna in Idaho! Do your cats like to vent in the morning?

Question:

Now that the colder weather has set in. Cali has started sleeping on the heating vents in the morning. Although she always picks the one furthest from the heat monster. Lizzie has been spotted laying right on top of a heat vent, and our house is older, so they are larger than normal, being about 14 inches square (we want to get new covers, but they would be expensive as special orders :( ).

We probably have a couple that need replacing as well. All standard sizes AFAIK. When I was a kid, the vent in my bedroom was the closest to the furnace, and when I got cold (which was often, and I heard the furnace kick on, I would go sit on the vent.  I used to have this dress that was about knee length, and kinda flowy, it would billow out around me and I would have this "heat tent" all to myself (the only pets we had as kids were the caged kind – hamsers – or goldfish).

I have to try this Nighty/Dress over the vent trick, sounds comfy. LOL. We had two cats and a d*g when I was young. Fluffy (DLH) was the motherly type and always ran over to check me out when I fell down and started bawling. Pretty smart too, she used to open the folding doors by butting them in the middle with her head. Tom, was a basic Tom Cat with a ton of personality. He kept breaking into the house (garage attic) until we decided to keep him. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – — The ONE and ONLY lefthanded-pathetic-paranoid-psychotic-sarcastic-wiseass-ditzy former-blonde in Bloomington! how long have you been beading?

Question:

I’ve been beading since I was 12 (off and on, now ON).  That’s 38 years, sheesh.  Started making hippie love beads.  Time sure flies…..Lily, thanks for posting the link to Bead Notes (aka Encyclopedia Beadtannica).

Response:

someone in my newsgroup mentioned beading as very therapeuric for them, just out of curiosity, how long have you all been beading? i want to take it up but don’t really know where to start. types of beads, how it is done, etc. can anyone help? anyone know of any good books it?

I have been beading for around 10 years.  Really seriously this past year. I love Czech pressed beads.  They come in so many colors and sizes and shapes.  They are made so much better than the indian beads. Most of the time they are translucent in vibrant colors. I also love Czech seed beads size 11o.  I find 11o are more consistent in size and shape. I have since learned a new technique that was given to me here were I can combine my love of the two forms.  I have just finished another bracelet with the embellished brick stitch.  All I can say is WOW!  I will post pics hopefully tomorrow. Here is a picture of the first: http://www.empressbeads.com/bracelets.htm Thanks for looking. Amy http://www.empressbeads.com <beadsnstuff…@hotmail.com> wrote in message

I’ve done odds and ends of beading forever.  Consistently beading for 15 or 20 years.  Seriously beading since I joined this group 3 1/2 years ago. First go to the library for "eye candy".  Think about what you’re interested in.  Stringing requires less technical skills, but greater investment of money.  "Bead weaving" is wildly fascinating and versatile.  It requires less investment but is very time consuming. And then play.  That’s the most important thing. Tina <beadsnstuff…@hotmail.com> wrote in message

Core frozen dinners?

Question:

Anybody know if WW is going to come out with Core pre-packaged frozen dinners? I don’t eat alot of frozen meals, but they are great for a fast lunch or dinner. — Wendy http://griffinsflight.com/Quilting/quilt1.htm de-fang email address to reply

Response:

I have seen posted elsewhere that WW is redoing their low carb products to accomodate the Core program. In the meantime just make extra food and pack the leftovers in glad/ziploc plastic containers for the next day. A lot cheaper and without all the added Sodium that WW adds to their meals.

Slight weight loss at first weigh-in: 1 lb only

Question:

I think a pound loss is wonderful. I have at least 9 hours of excercise (tennis and aquafit) a week and don’t to much better than that. You’re doing well, and please don’t get discouraged.

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – one pound would be a whoosh for me,  best of luck this week, Lee Hi all, tonightI was at my first weigh-in after restarting the WW-program. The result dissapointed me a bit: only 1 lb. I think I have to exercise a little bit more ;-) Ekko 246/245/197

Response:

I must say, after I thought about it, slower really is better for me, I take it off really slow but I have lost over92 pounds from all of those .4 and .6 losses, Lee

Down is down. Some of us lose slowly. I know I do. It might be the case for you this go around. Take a look at your journals. Are you recording everything accurately? Are your portion sizes accurate? Are you drinking at least 6 glasses of water? Are you varying your foods everyday? These are just a few things to get you started for a new week.

I am a bit dissapointed with this weightloss because I compare it to 3 years ago when I first started with the WW-program. At that time I lost nearly 5 pounds in the first week. But at time I had a lot more exercise because I went to work by bike and I’m betweem jobs this time. Ekko 246/245/197

I do recording everything everyday with the right portions, I drink enough water, but I think I don’t vary my foods enough. On top of that I think I don’t have enough exercise.  Ekko 246/245/197

Salt binge

Question:

Pretzels work for me.  I can have 17 of the store brand mini pretzels for 17 points. Or how about one of those 100 calories packets of crackers?  Each box here is marked with a large NO to indicate to children and DH that they aren’t to eat them (same with my yogurt). Mary Ooops!  17 of the mini pretzels are 2 points. Note to self:  re-read messages before sending.

LOL!  I was wondering how BIG those 1 point pretzals were.

Response:

I had a major jones for salt last night. I’ve been exercising a lot lately – cub scout hike on Sunday (carrying a 4 yo most of the way), new aerobics class Monday, walking field trip with 1st graders Tuesday… Anyway, I was craving salt big time last night, and I think it was as a direct result of all that exertion. Fortunately, I dove into a bag of baked potato chips, and avoided the pringles… and did manage to stop after a reasonable amount. But, what would be a better thing to do? Suggesting fruit won’t help – that just won’t fix a serious salt jones. When I need salt, I need salt!

94% FF popcorn always helps me.

Response:

pickles. I live in this hot climate and when I mow the yard I usually consume several dill pickles that day… I have to, will get weak without it. — Leslie Arnim

dill pickles, tomatoes with salt, watermelon sprinkled lightly with salt, if you chill the melon or tomato even better, Lee

It’s supposed to be bad for you isn’t it lol I usually have potato crisps too Jen

Response:

I don’t have high blood pressure, or water retention issues, so I’m not worried about that. I’d just like to find something other than potato chips (even the baked ones) to get a "fix"! <G — Wendy Talk Like a Pirate Day, Sept. 19, 2004 http://www.talklikeapirate.com/ http://griffinsflight.com/Quilting/quilt1.htm de-fang email address to reply – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – It’s supposed to be bad for you isn’t it lol I usually have potato crisps too Jen

I read somewhere to eat 94% popcorn and put light soy sauce on it.  I tried it and it was good and stopped the potato chip craving. Here is a fruit suggestion anyway, Try an orange cut in half with a saladito pushed into the center. A saladito is a dried salted plum. For a little extra kick try a chili saladito.  I don’t know how many points a saladito is but I can’t imagine it has more than a point. Just be careful not to eat to many of these that would be really bad.  Salty! — Diana 2004 Total Layouts: 70 OZ Challenge: 173/165.2/105

LOL! That’s ok, Mary. Whenever I hear about these amazing good tasting low-point products, I just figure it’s stuff I can’t find here anyway, and make the appropriate translations. :-) But you post reminded me about the chipotle mustard I have, and how good pretzel sticks are dipped into it! Yoplait Source yogurt is it Core or not???

Question:

Does anyone know if Yoplait Source yogurt is it Core or not???  it has 0.1% milk fat?  Each yogurt container is 100g and on Flex it was 1 point each.  I also saw some different brand name yogurt that was Fat free but it was vanilla flavor…is that ok or does it have to be plain?? Take care, SPOONS

Response:

Check the sugar content. Core list says fat free plain, but I don’t know about fat-free sugar-free flavored. — Wendy http://griffinsflight.com/Quilting/quilt1.htm De-Fang email address to reply

Response:

This is from a summary of the Core Plan clarifications: "Fat-free sugar free (light) yogurts are not Core foods due to their abuse potential." "Light" refers to being artificially sweetened. Yogurt which has no fat, has no added sweetener of any kind, and has no added flavor (i.e., "plain" yogurt made from skim milk) is a Core food. Anything else is not Core. – Fred #2

Response:

our leader said it is not core.  She said to get the plain carton when in the store and compare labels.  She said that the protein is much less in some brands and most flavored ones.  If you like vanilla flavor just put a tablespoon of splendia and a half teaspoon in a cup of the plain and let it sit overnight, its really good, Lee
