Running Sox…
Question:
My favorite socks are made by defeat or sock guy (they’re basically the same sock). They are the ones that usually have goofy emblems on them (I think that’s why alot of runners don’t take them serious). They are made of polyester, lycra and nylon. They fit tight so no blisters and they wick better than anything else I’ve worn. Although they’re pretty expensive (8 or 9 bucks) they last longer and clean up better than cotton. Most specialty running store have them or I’m sure you can find them on the web. dc

Wicks sweat 2. Less blister prone Now my questions are: 1. Are they more comfortable? 2. Do you slip and slide with these sox? 3. How much do they cost? 4. What are your personal thoughts about special microfiber running sox? Thanks in advance for any answers! – Carra — http://fullspeed.to/mypicture – be warned! plus my bad essay "Who am I?" http://www.studynow.com – Medical Bookstore, cool! Before you buy.

the unmitigated audacity to write: Sox that run… I currently wear a variety of mostly cotton white sox to run; however, I just read in the recent Runners World that CoolMax or someother microfiber polyester fiber sox are superior for two reasons: 1. Yes, but that is not necessarily a bad thing; that means less friction which might mean fewer blisters. 3. How much do they cost?
Too much, at least for the benefits I see in them. 4. What are your personal thoughts about special microfiber running sox?
Ditto the above and also, they seem to retain odors a bit more and require a dunking in baking soda solution once in a while. My feet do not sweat much so cotton or simple, cheap poly works fine for me. Those who perspire heavily at their feet might feel differently. Thanks in advance for any answers! – Carra

Carra, Ya, I would say both, I don’t really remember which type of ankle high socks I had on that day. My feet don’t normally sweat much, but after using the stair stepper for 40 minutes a lot of sweat from my legs ended up in my shoes. So to make a long story short, if your going to sweat a lot without any moving air around you, I’d strongly suggest that you wear socks that go above your ankle instead of just ankle high socks. BTW I saw something really cool today, it was referred to as a runners Mecca and I’m going to start a post on that subject. Roger – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – About the ankle high sox, are you referring to cotton sox or synthetic sox or both? Thanks for the reply! – Carra

About the ankle high sox, are you referring to cotton sox or synthetic sox or both? Thanks for the reply! – Carra – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Carra, About all I can say is the cotton socks get holes in them quicker, even if I keep my toe-nails as short as I can. I have worn holes in socks with just a 10K race, but with the synthetic fabric I haven’t seen any holes, even after a half-marathon yesterday. As for the length of the sock. Well if you are going to be working out at a gym, I’d suggest full length socks because the ankle high socks don’t have enough fabric to keep the sweat from running down into your shoes and making your feet soggy. Note, the opinions expressed above are merely based on personal experience and no real scientific data. Thanks, Roger
